Argonaut Ventures Announces the Launch of Malaria.com

San Francisco, March 28, 2011 —Argonaut Ventures announces the launch of Malaria.com, a malaria information clearinghouse designed to raise awareness about the devastating effects of malaria, and provide historical and current information about malaria around the world.

Each year, there are more than 225 million cases of malaria, and about 781,000 people die from the disease. The goal of Malaria.com is to provide a resource for people seeking Malaria information, but more than that—to provide a forum for volunteers and professionals from organizations across the globe to share their knowledge, organize, and connect with eachother to fight malaria worldwide.

Malaria.com is the third in a series of news sites slated for release by Argonaut Ventures LLC, a San Francisco Bay Area venture company specializing in the funding and development of health and medical companies using technology to build communities, and to streamline and organize personal health information.

Co-founded by early internet entrepreneurs Dr. Matthew Naythons and Peter Goggin, Malaria.com's Managing Editor is Dr. Claire Standley, a researcher on tropical parasitology based at Princeton University.

In addition, Malaria.com benefits from the expertise and guidance of a number of eminent health and media professionals who form the Board of Advisors, including Rune Beech (Danish media entrepeneur and founder of European portal NetDoctor.com), Michael Castleman (medical journalist), Mary Ellen Guroy (M.D. and expert on travel and tropical medicine), Michael J. Kleeman (technology strategist with expertise on disaster preparedness, including pandemic response), Judith Standley (certified nurse midwife and MPH, with 25+ years overseas experience), Judith Thurman (staff writer on the New Yorker and award-winning journalist) and Alain-Jacques Valleron (M.D. and founder of the French Communicable Disease Network, which pioneered electronic disease surveillance).
